I chose the song “God Help the Outcasts” by Esmeralda for an overall song of the whole book because this book is about an outcast that had a boyfriend that killed a lot of people in their school, Garvin High, because they were on what they called, the Hate List.

This list has the names of everybody that gave them problems and who they hated. I also chose the song “Battlefield” by Jordan Sparks because the lyrics in this song talk about hardships in love between a girl and a boy, and there is a hardship in the book between a girl, Valerie Leftman, and a boy, Nick Levil, which is that Nick shot people that were on the Hate List.
Next on my playlist is “Missing you”, by 1st lady, this song’s lyrics are about a girl missing her dead boyfriend, this fits with the novel because Valerie misses Nick very much, and believes that he really was a good person
.
The fourth song on my playlist is “Youth of the Nation” by P.O.D, this song is about school shootings, and this is an obvious reason for why it is on my playlist, because this book is about a school shooting.

Another song for the playlist is “Loser” by 3 doors down. I thought about this song while reading the part in the novel, The Hate List, where Valerie flashes back to the time that Nick was shooting all the people in the school. Finally, the song “Flying dreams” by Kenny Loggins is on my playlist, this song is perfect for the part of the book where Valerie flashes back, again, to a moment where Nick and her go out to her backyard and lay in the grass while telling each other about anything and everything, their dreams, and there longings.
