The first song in my playlist is “My Heart is Broken” by Evanescence. This song matches the scene in Divergent by Veronica Roth when her mom dies. The two fit together because the lyrics express her sorrow about the event. She was really close to her mom and she was the one who loved her even after she switched factions. So, when she died, Tris was shattered, especially since she had to watch her die.



The second song in my playlist is “Sick” by Evanescence. This song matches the scene when Tris is tired of training. The two fit together because the lyrics are talking about being sick of it all and holding on. She really struggles with the physical aspect of being small and at a disadvantage in a fight. It was one of the obstacles she had to overcome.



The third song in my playlist is “Monster” by Skillet. This song matches the scene when Tris snaps and tries to attack molly when molly was lying about her father. The two fit together because the lyrics in the song are expressing a feeling of having a monster inside, which could symbolize Tris’ more violent and protective side.

The two fit together because the song’s lyrics express the feeling of indecisiveness and the contemplation of a serious decision, which is what Tris was going through.
