The first song in my playlist is “Why” by Second Hand Serenade. This song matches the scene in Boot Camp when Garret’s dad came to visit and Garret is forced to pretend that everything is okay even though he wants to cry.
The second song in my playlist is “I miss you” by Miley Cyrus. This song matches Garrets relationship with Sabrina in the book Boot Camp. Even though she doesn’t know there Garret is, he doesn’t know if she’s thinking about him, but he is always thinking about Sabrina. Thinking about what she is doing, how she is doing, if she still cares, and if she misses him like he misses her.
The third song in my playlist is “Broken” by Lindsey Haun. This song matches the not a scene but a character in Boot Camp. Sarah Sunwald, a spunky girl who has spent the past two years of her life in Lake Harmony. She is a fighter, strong willed, and not ready to give up her hope of being free. She takes abuse not just by the camp itself but by the feeling of emptiness and fear. She hopes for hope. She believes that one day she will be free, she has to.
The fourth song in my playlist is “Carolina” by Parmalee. This song also matches Garret’s relationship with Sabrina in the book Boot Camp. This song matches because it talks about how he misses his girl and even though they are far apart, they will be together again.
The fifth song in my playlist is “See You When I See You” by Jason Aldean. This song matches the scene in Boot Camp where Garret is saying goodbye to Sarah. The whole scene is cold. I feel like the song perfectly captures how Sarah feels as the words “goodbye” fall from her lips, and when she kisses Garret farewell, you can feel that it won’t be forever.
The sixth song in my playlist is “Burn” by Papa Roach. This song fits Sarah, Pauly, and Garret’s feelings toward Lake Harmony in the book Boot Camp. It says “you’re gonna get what you deserve I wanna watch you burn,” I feel like this describes how they felt while burning down the camp.
The seventh song in my playlist is “Hero” by Skillet. In the book Boot Camp, Sarah and Pauly need a “hero” to save them from the misery and despair that is Lake Harmony. So when Garret comes along they bargain with him to help them escape, he is the hero that saves them just in time.
The eighth song in my playlist is “Wake me up” by Evanescence, this song matches the resistance shown by so many kids against Lake Harmony’s “brain washing” in the book Boot Camp. I imagine the kids like puppets, waiting for someone to wake them up and save them from the merciless teaching methods used at Lake Harmony.
