The first song in my playlist is “Last Goodbye” by Tedashii. This song matches the scene in Legend when June’s brother, Metias, goes on a mission and won’t take her with him. June told him to be careful but he ends up dying that night. These to fit together because the song lyrics talk about losing someone in the army, and how they don’t want to be alone, much like June after Metias dies.
The second song in my playlist is “Gamble Everything for Love” by Ben Lee. This song matches several scenes in the book Legend. In one scene it matches because June and Day are kissing and they are “unknown enemies” meaning that they don’t know that they should hate each other yet. Later on in the book both Day and June catch themselves thinking about one another even though June sentenced Day to death. Also, they both risk their lives for each other. These two fit together because Day and June are literally gambling their lives for love, hence the title “Gamble Everything for Love”
The third song in my playlist is “Just like You” by Lecrae. This song matches the scene in Legend when June always wanted to go on missions with Metias but he rarely lets her because they are dangerous. These two fit together because in the song it says “I just wanna be like you” the song lyrics capture the scene well and shows how June wants to be like her brother.
The fourth song on my playlist is “what goes around comes around” by Justin Timberlake. This song matches a scene in the book Legend when Day and June first kiss and express more feelings for each other. Then again when they leave each other’s side but are later reunited and express more feelings toward each other. This song and this scene match because June leaves Day but then eventually comes back. And well, what goes around comes back around.
The fifth song in my playlist is “Beautiful Lies” by Mt. Eden. This song relates to a scene in the book when Day got shot and captured. While in captivity the world was a blur to Day, Which is represented by the soft parts in the song and the gun shots and loud voices are represented by the louder beats. These two things relate because the beat of the song is soothing but also upbeat in a way, just like Day when his vision is a blur and all he remembers hearing is gun shots and loud voices.( upbeat part)
The sixth song in my playlist is “A Light That Never Comes” by Linkin Park and Steve Aoki. This song’s lyrics describe the character Day in the book Legend this song fits this character because in the song it says “Nah you don’t know me.” And “You cannot catch me cannot hold me.” Much like day, for a very long time and after committing many crimes, no one could catch him.
The seventh song in my playlist is “I Can’t Stop” by Flux pavilion. This song relates to the book Legend when Day is breaking into the hospital and runs away with medicine. These two fit together because of the beat and the lyrics, “I can’t stop” represents Day making a break for it, and the beat represents how intense the scene is.
The eight song in my playlist is “Chasing” by Mt. Eden. This song relates to the character June because she’s calm but intense just like the song. These two fit together because the beat is intense but relaxes you like June.

A Playlist for Blood Wounds by Danielle
by Danielle
I chose the song “When She Cries” by Britt Nicole for more than just a few scenes. It doesn’t describe one scene. It describes so much of the information shared throughout the book. The song is about a little girl raised in a bad home, who as a teenager lives in a better place but deals with her past through self harm. The same life-story as the main character up to a certain point.
In part two of the book, the main character, Willa, decides to go back to her home town to attend her sisters’ funeral. In this, she is sort of starting over and figuring herself out and her past while she’s there, and at the same time having to deal with her father’s death and the crime he committed just before it. For that I chose the song “Shake it Out” by Florence and the Machine, a song about regretting your mistakes and restarting.
Also in part two, Willa meets her brother, who she hadn’t seen since she was very little. When they meet, they share a certain sadness with each other, much like that of the feelings described in the song “Sympathy” by the Goo Goo Dolls. And also that they share feelings of doubt and homelessness, which in this case is because of the loss of their family.
About halfway through the book, Willa attends her sisters’ and their mother’s funeral where a teacher of one of the girls sings the song Itsy Bitsy Spider, a song which meant a lot to Willa when she was little. Hearing the song makes her cry harder than she’s ever cried before. And because of her tears, I chose the song “Save You” by Kelly Clarkson for the scene. The connection is a little bit hard to explain without the lyrics.
After the funeral, Willa goes to the cemetery with her brother where the girls and their mother were buried to visit them and sing to them. For this scene I chose the song “Keep Holding On” by Avril Lavigne because of their support for each other.
Throughout the entirety of the story, the relationship with the main character and her dad is described – how it was before, and how it is present day. I connected this to the song “Breakdown” by Seether which talks about a relationship where one person is really hurt by the other, and where there used to be a close relationship before but that ended up in them hating each other. This is a surprising a lot like the father-daughter relationship in the book.
Though not the entire song fits the story, the song “My Immortal” by Evanescence does relate to an extent. This song does not fit just one scene, it fits a thought process I guess you could say. Willa has to deal with her father’s crime and that fact that that is all the memory she can have of him. The song talks about being left, and having a memory of the person that is haunting, and just wanting to be left alone by it. Get the connection?
Lastly, I chose the song “Scarlet” by Brooke Fraser. Not because it fit any particular scene in the book but because it is about a major part of the story. Self harm.
Yes, some of these songs are stretched a bit, but it was the best I could do.

A Playlist for Boy21 by Collin H.
by Collin H.
The book I read was Boy21. When I started to read Boy21 I assumed it was just an ordinary basketball book that takes you from one game to the next. As I read, I realized that basketball isn’t even very prevalent in the story. It’s always a topic of conversation, but there always seems to be something deeper going on in the story that the main characters are much more worried about. Boy21 takes place in a town called Bellmont where gangs, drugs and poverty are spread throughout.
The first song in my playlist is “Don’t stop Believin’” by Journey. This song is about two people that leave their home in search of a better life described by the lyrics “Just a city boy, born and raised in South Detroit, he took the midnight train going anywhere.” This song fits the section where Finley receives a letter from Erin after she has been gone in witness protection for 6 months. This letter gives Finley new hope and shows him that not all is lost. Finley then gets on a train to Erin in search of a new and better life.
“300 Violin Orchestra” by Jorge Quintero is the second song on my list and it greatly describes the feeling I think Finley is having before his first basketball game of the season. This is basically a great pump-up song and I can easily imagine finely listening to it. He feels that he has been waiting for basketball season far too long and is definitely ready to get started.
The third song in my playlist is “Rumor Has It” by Adele. Though the only lyrics in the song that even remotely describe this scene are “Rumor has it,” I think just those three words do a good job at describing this “Rumor” from his coach. Finley’s coach has told him that Boy21 is extremely good at basket ball, but he hasn’t seen Boy21 show any skill. While Boy21 is reluctant to play basketball, Finley can’t help but to constantly wonder how good Boy21 actually is.
“Moonlight Sonata” by Beethoven fits both a certain scene in the book and also a large part of Finley’s personality. Finley is quiet; sometimes he’ll try to talk but just can’t manage to speak. Moonlight Sonata fits his personality in the way that it is slow and without lyrics. The second part that “Moonlight Sonata” describes is when Finley and Boy21 go to a place designed for stargazing. Stars are a very important memory to Boy21. Before his parents were murdered, Boy21 spent a lot of time with his father looking through a telescope. This is a big reason that Boy21’s mental breakdown had to do with aliens and space.
“Use Somebody” by the band Kings of Leon is fifth on my playlist. It describes when Erin asks Finley to reunite and become her boyfriend again. Every year, Finley and Erin break up in able to completely focus on their basketball season. Erin asks when she is in the hospital after being hit by a car. Use Somebody is about a guy that really likes a girl and wants her to notice him. Though that doesn’t completely fit, it describes the feeling of longing that for Erin has for Finley. She agreed to the break up but was not happy about it, she wanted to stay together, like an ordinary couple. Now that she had been through this traumatic experience, she wants extra support from Finley to help her manage the pain.
The sixth song in my playlist is “Basketball” by Bow Wow. It is about a guy that really likes basketball and helps picture Finley and Erin’s daily basketball workout. The guy in “Basketball” says that basketball is by far his favorite hobby and he works to improve. Finley and Erin practice a lot. Their workout consists of multiple shooting and dribbling drills followed by weights and running. In order to be good at basketball you have to practice, and the more you practice the better you should get. This is exactly Finley and Erin’s determined mind set going into the season. They have to out work every one in order to perform better.
My seventh song is “Mad World” by Gary Jules and Michael Andrews. The real essence of the song despite the lyrics is to create a sad and disheartening image. The lyrics “I find it kind of funny, I find it kind of sad, the dreams in which I’m dying are the best I’ve ever had” capture the depressing feeling this song creates. This sad theme fits when Finley is telling Boy21 the story of how his mother died and how his grandfather lost his legs. Finley likes to pretend that playing basketball in his backyard is his earliest memory. Reason being that playing basketball was and has always been his method of getting away and keeping his mind off of the tragedies that have occurred.
“Cinema” by Benny Benassi is the eighth song in my playlist. The song is about a guy that is fascinated by the great looks of a girl and describes it by saying “You’re a cinema, I could watch you forever.” The song does a good job at describing the very first page when Finley and Erin are eating dinner with his dad and grandpa. Finley decides checking Erin out is a much better use of his time than eating. While he still finished his meal, it just took him a little bit longer than the others.
Boy21 was a good read and almost always stayed interesting by adding new incidents that would change the story from there on out. Once the story gets a little boring, it will throw something else at you, and in my opinion that definitely makes the book worth reading.

A Playlist for Legend by The Cat in the Hat
by The Cat in the Hat
The first song in my playlist is “Loose Yourself” by Eminem. This song matches the scene in legend when day attacks the police headquarters because it expresses Day’s anger toward the republic and the city police. It also shows Day’s capacity for mischief and mayhem. I think this scene really opens the reader up to Day’s personality.
The second song on my playlist is “I don’t wanna stop” .I thought the song “I don’t wanna stop” by Ozzy Osbourne fits the scene where the character Day attacked the hospital. I thought it fit really well because it really expresses how Day felt at that time in the book. It shows how Day is so desperate for the plague cure and that he will injure anyone who gets in his way. I thought the scene and the song matched perfectly.
The third sound effect I chose is the “shadow lake” sound effect by Big Fish Games. This sound effect fits the scene in legend where Day finds the strange x on his family’s door. It fits the scene because there is some element of horror and also an element of mystery in that scene, same as the music. This sound effect really makes you feel how I think Day would have probably felt at that time.
The fourth song in my playlist is “Battle Scars” by Lupe Fiasco and Guy Sebastian. This song matches the scene in Legend where Thomas kills Day’s mother because that is also the scene where day gets captured by the republic. The song captures day’s pain and also the will he still has to fight. This was a very fast passed song and so was this part in the book and so I thought they would go well together.
The fifth song in my playlist is “Passage into Midnight” by Omar Akram. This song matches the scene in legend where Day and June first kiss. I thought this song matched best with this scene because the song is romantic and so is this scene, so I thought that they matched very well. This scene was also a very important part of the story.
The sixth song in my playlist is “Can’t Hold Us” by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis. That best fits the scene where June finally figures out what government did to her family and she is pissed off because she can’t speak out unless she wants to suffer the same fate as the rest of her family, so she is intent on getting revenge from the inside. The writers tone in this scene is one of mischief, like she wants to get the character into trouble.
The seventh song in my playlist was the “Mission Impossible” theme song by Lalo Schifrin. I thought that this music fit the scene where day escapes from the republic. It fit this scene really well because it was really suspenseful and because you, as the reader, are anticipating what is to come.
The eighth song in my playlist is “I don’t want to miss a thing” by Mark Chesnutt. It fit the scene where Day and June were together in the box car really well because it really did a good job of setting the tone for where they were just sitting together with each other, letting time pass.

A Playlist for Legendby Skywalker
by Skywalker
These are the songs that I choose for the book Legend by Marie Lu.
The first song in my playlist is “Man of constant sorrow” by Soggy Bottom Boys. This song matches the scene in Legend when Day acts like he has been stabbed and on his way to the hospital. He was going to the hospital because he needed to get a plague vaccine for his little brother. These two fit together because the book says how Day has done bad things, but to protect his family. The speakers tone in the song is that he has done bad things in his past and cannot return home, but he still hopes that he can go to heaven when he dies. The tone for this part of the book is that Day feels nervous about entering the hospital for the fear of being caught.
The second song in my playlist is “Spybreak!” by Propeller Heads. This song has no lyrics. This song matches the scene in Legend when June sneaks out of the collage she attends and scales a very large building. These two go together because they it has the element of action in the song and in the book. There are no speakers in song because there are no lyrics, but there is still tone in the song. The tone for the song is that it is somewhat upbeat and energetic. The tone for the scene in the book is perilous and griping because June is scaling a building at a very fast pace.
The third song in my playlist is “Saturday in the park” by Chicago. The song matches the scene in Legend when Day, June, and Tess are out for the day walking the streets of L.A. and searching the booths for merchandise. These two fit together because the song is sarcastic and in the novel, L.A. is a dirty, crime ridden city. The tone of the speaker is that he is enjoying his day at the park and is care free, this is almost the opposite for June and Day’s case. Their tone is that they need to lay low because Day is a wanted criminal.
The forth song in my playlist is “New car smell” by Michael Giachino. This song has no lyrics. This song matches the scene in Legend when June is told that her brother is killed, and when she is being driven to the police station to identify the body that was brought in. These two fit together because the song has sadness to it and so does the scene because June was not ready to say good bye to her brother. This song is from the 2009 Star Trek movie Spocks’ home world of Vulcan is destroyed. The tone that the speaker is expressing is the loss of something that you held dearly too.
The fifth song in my playlist is “The unforgiven” by Metalica. The song matches the scene in Legend when Day is being lead to the firing squad that will execute him. The two fit together because the song talks about how a boy is being punished for something that he did wrong. In Legend, Day was about to be executed for crimes against the Republic. The speaker tone was that he felt terrible that this boy was being punished for a crime.
These are my songs for the book Legend. I hope that you check out the book someday and enjoy it as much as I did.

Legend playlist by Ellie
by Ellie
Radio Active-Imagine Dragons Pg.100-108
In this part of the book (100-108) June is fighting someone, there’s a huge crowd and people are making bets on who’s going to win the fight. Anyway this song, Radio Active, the music video is what I imagine how it is in the book, except humans are fighting instead. Ha-Ha.
Accidentally In Love-Counting Crows Pg.120-132
In pages 120-132, the song Accidentally in Love, describes what the character are really feeling and saying. Daniel (Day) is kind of falling for Miss Iparis (June) as in how he says he wants to kiss her, and how’s there’s something different about her, compared to the other girls he’s gone out with.
Beautiful-Sean Kingston Pg.137
Day says to June, “You’re very attractive.” Just the way the author makes him say it, just made me think of the song Beautiful. Like how the singer in the song sings it, is how Day is saying in the book. Just makes this part more romantic.
L.A. Woman-Billy Idol Pg.133
This song really describes the time in the moment of this part (pg.133) in the book. How? Because there’s just this “lonely girl” and this guy who really wants to kiss her. So he feels that he can trust her, but at the same time, cant. Anyways this song is about loving an L.A women and well Day is loving an L.A woman (June)
Tonight I’m loving you-Enrique Iglesias Pg.137-138
Day finally kidded her, but he wants more. He pushed her to the wall, rubing his hand down her body, starting from her face. This song is describing what he wants but doesn’t do. So basically, wanting to send her his love but then stopping himself.
The Link-Ron Jones (From Star Trek) Pg.149-160
This song basically a back ground song to what’s happening in the book at this time. The song makes the death of Day’s mother more intense than it already is. So first the song starts out high and extreme, that’s the part where the boy is running to get home to try to save his family. Then the song gets quiet, the boy is now talking to his family and hiding them away under the house from the bad guys (Ha-Ha) then the song gets more intense and that’s when they find Day’s mother and kill her.
In The Flesh-Pink Floyd Pg.115-120
This song is the best background music to this part. It character, talking in a tone.
Waiting for a Girl like You-Foreigner Pg.303-305
This song describes the background feelings of Day. Because Day and June have now been through a lot together. And now they’re starting over their relationship. This time he knows for sure that she’s the one and she knows that he’s the one for her. So this song just goes perfect to this part in the book. When I read this part, this song just popped up in my head.

Playlist for Homeboyz by Lauren Powell
by Lauren Powell
One of the most fitting songs I chose for the book Homeboyz is “Dear Mama” by Tupac Shakur. This song most reminds me of the character Micah and his background with both his family and gang violence, and maybe predicting his future if he continues on the same path. This is most evident in the scene in chapter 14 in which Teddy brings in a bag of food and Diaz later explains some pieces of the kind of life Micah is living in and is also made apparent when Teddy later investigates for himself through CLETS what kind of environment Micah is in. The line, “I hung around with the thugs, and even though they sold drugs, they showed a young brother love, I moved out and started really hangin’,” so perfectly fits the way Micah feels about his gang “family” himself; knowledge which Teddy gains after psycho-evaluating Micah’s behavior. One particular lyric reads, “Now ain't nobody tell us it was fair, no love from my daddy cause the coward wasn't there,” which also corresponds with the fact that Micah not only has no father but no biological parents at all for that matter. The song goes on to later say how the person in the song grew up to live a rough life of gang violence and drug related practices, which may be the only future left for Micah if left on the same bumpy path he is on now.
Thy next song I chose to describe a semi-abstract piece of the book that I felt was important. The song is “Wake Me Up When September Ends” by Green Day. In an overall sense this song describes the hopelessness the lead singer, Billie Joe Armstrong felt after his father died, the story behind the song being that his mother knocked on his bedroom door before his father’s funeral, to which he replied, “Wake me up when September ends,” hence the song. This song is reminiscent of the way Teddy’s mother reacted to her daughter’s death, the way she holed herself up in her room and began to take drastic changes in her appearance and motivation in life. In chapter 15 Teddy’s mother 's appearance and tendencies are described to be fading, as she now lacks interest in what used to be her priorities such as cleaning, cooking, working, and having a general upkeep of her own physical appearance. The line stating, "As my memory rests, but never forgets what I lost," is reminiscent to the way Teddy's mother seems to be forgetting much of the rest of her life other than the loss of her daughter, further proving my point to this songs connection with the story.
Another song I believe to correlate well with this book is "Numb" by Linkin Park, which I believe goes well with Teddy's part of the story for two reasons. One being that Teddy's craving for revenge has made him numb towards his own emotions towards the death of his sister and the emotions of those around him, including his family; Secondly he has dissapointed his family with his steps taken towards the revenge of his sisters death, but doesnt see them as shameful in his own eyes. The line "Everything that you thought I would be has fallen apart right in front of you," corresponds with how Teddy's family feels about him wasting his oppurtunity to attend college and gaining a criminal record, while Teddy has become numb, or apathetic to the opinions of his family. Teddy has also ignored his feelings towards his sister's death, only becoming angry when the topic is brought up rather than greaving, as deascribed in the heading line, "I've become so numb." Bringing another enhanced understanding to the book.
A song worth mention in relation to this book is "Handlebars" by FloBots, which I believe translates Teddy's ego for his hacking skills. In chapter 14 Teddy hacks into the CLETS system and begins to steal money from the goverment covertly by placing it into an off-shores account, I believe the line, "I can do anything I want 'cause look: I can keep rythym with no metronome," describes Teddy's dangerously inflated ego in regard to his abilites, as well as the rest with of the song that repeatedly describes why this person is better than everyone, at everything.
The next song I chose I believe helps describe the over-all sad feeling the family feels over the loss of Tina in chapter 3, that song being "When You're Gone" by Avril Lavigne. I think an important reason this song strongly corresponds with the book is because from line to line you can see each perspective of the different family members. For example, in the line "I always needed time on my own, I never thought I'd need there when I cried," could be better fit to Teddy's feelings, with his lack of affection or need to be independent from his family, but feeling devastated after Tina's death; while the line that ensues, "And the days feel like years when I'm alone," could correlate to his mothers feelings in the sense that she spends much of her time alone in her room mourning her daughter. In a whole this song conveys the desperate feeling of losing a loved one, which is a basis of the story.
The sixth song I chose is wordless, but I think it conveys a sinister tone that could be linked to the scene in which Teddy is planning on attacking th 0-1-0's to gain information on who killed his sister. Allan Pettersson's buildup and breakdown in "Symphony No. 7" of the orchestra very well set a dark and aggressive feeling that seem to be in tune with the mood set in the book.
The seventh song I chose brought to mind Diaz and her experience that is brought up in Teddy and Diaz's first encounter. Fergie's "Big Girls Dont Cry" coheres with Diaz's hard exterior towards the world but her consistent passion to improve it while dealing with the loss of someone close to her, rather than becoming depressed and holing up within herself in mourning. The line: "And I'm gonna miss you like a child misses their blanket but I've got to get a move on with my life, it's time to be a big girl now and big girls don't cry" syncs with the fact that while Diaz will always miss that person, she has to be strong and make something good from the situation.
This final song I chose was yet another song I chose pertaining to Micah. I believe this song can semi-relate to the "empowering" feeling of being a gangster, though it is found to be an overall foolish idea to most people. 420YOLOSwagMaster's song "Can You Smell My Swag" repeatedly refers to drugs and "swag" as if they were concepts to be envious of, although the entirety of the song just makes you want to giggle at the stupidity of it all, which I believe is a general opinion of outsiders towards gangsters not only in the book, but in reality as well.

The first song in my playlist is “A thousand years,” by Christina Perri. This song matches the scene where Tina dies. Teddy is devastated and it’s a very sad part in the book. In one part in the book Teddy finds a vanilla scented hand lotion that belonged to Tina. "The fragrance would always remind him of his sister… His dead sister.” This song relates to this part in the book, because in the song it says “I have died everyday waiting for you.“ In the book Teddy and Tina don’t have the best relationship, but deep down inside Tina knows that Teddy loves her too. "Tina made her moody brother peanut-butter-and-banana sandwiches every night. They never talked about it. Tina would just leave the sandwiches on the counter and in the morning the food would be gone. Now Tina was gone. And the gangsta who had killed her would soon be gone too.” In this part in the book the example of how Tina made Teddy sandwiches every night even when he was all moody relates to the part in the song where it says, "I’ll love you for a thousand more." This relates to how Tina and Teddy felt about each other, because they were always there for each other no matter the situation.

The second song in my playlist is “If heaven was a mile away,” by Nas. This song matches the scene in the book where Teddy is about to kill Mumzy but then he doesn’t because he realizes that he isn’t looking for revenge. Teddys tone in this scene in the book is angry, because hes angry at Mumzy for killing Tina. In the song it says, “If heaven was a mile away would I pack up my bags and leave this world tonight or save it all for you." In the book Teddy takes Mumzy B on a car ride to kill him for killing his sister. When they get there Mumzy starts to feel a little suspicious on what they’re really there for. “Teddy then pointed the gun at Mumzys head. Teddy hesitated. “Just shoot, dude. End this hell. And may the lord above have mercy on my soul." Mumzy just wants teddy to kill him so that it ends everything, because he can't handle feeling guilty anymore.

The third song in my playlist is “ Sexy and I know it,” by LMFAO. This song matches the scene where Teddy is talking about how hot Officer Diaz is. ” Diaz was young, in her mid to late twenties, and pretty. She wore her hair tied back and her sweater tight. It fit her curves nicely. And women who took good care of their own bodies appreciated men who had hot bodies themselves. Teddy was built like a Greek god. With his bad boy attitude and washboard stomach, the girlies had been throwing themselves at him for years.” Teddy basically thinks he’s very attractive and in the song it keeps repeating “I’m sexy and I know it." That part in the song relates to how teddy feels about himself, because he thinks of himself as a Greek god.

The fourth song in my playlist is “Here comes the sun,” by the Beetles. At the end of the book the Anderson family adopts Micah. It was a very happy part in the book, because Teddy and Micah had gotten so close, but it was unexpected that they adopted him. “Don’t call me Mrs. A anymore from now on you call me mom.” The song is very joyous and it pretty much gives hope that everything will be okay by saying “Here comes the sun and it’s alright.” In the book Teddy and Micah saw a lot of harsh things, and this song relates to it by saying that it’ll be alright and in the end it was, because they adopted Micah. It’s a very happy part in the book and in the song.

The fifth song in my playlist is "Loose yourself," by Eminem. This song relates to the part in the book where Eevil and Teddy are about to get in a fight. " Eevils lips slowly curved into a fiendish grin. He smashed his head into Teddy's face a three inch gash opened over Teddys right eye, splattering blood. Suddenly, Eevil threw three punches to the body, sending Teddy staggering back, hunched over. The brawl was on." The lyrics of the song don't match the scene in the book but the tone of the song does. The tone of the song is upbeat and it makes it sound like somebody is about to get in a fight.

The sixth song in my playlist is " Right by my side," by Nicki Minaj. This song fits the part in the book where Mumzy 's girlfriend dies. Mumzy and Teddy headed up to Mumzys apartment, because Mumzy knew something might happen to his pregnant girlfriend. As they went up into the apartment they followed a trail of blood that led to the bathroom, and their lay his girlfriend who had been shot six times and twice in the belly. This song relates to this part in the book, because in the song it says " It all comes down to this I miss you more than this." " I'm not livin' life I'm not livin' right if you're not by my side." This part in the song relates to how much Mumzy will miss his girlfriend and how he can't live without her now that shes gone. The part in the song where it says " It all comes down to this" relates to how it just is coming down to how Mumzy shooting himself. " Mumzy turned the gun, jammed it into his mouth and pulled the trigger." Mumzy knew he wouldn't be able to handle living without his girlfriend and that's why he did what he did.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=he3DJLXbebI
The seventh song in my playlist is " Memories," by David Guetta. This song fits the part in the book where Micah joins the Serpent Street gang. This song relates to this scene because in the song it says " All the crazy s**t I did tonight those will be the best memories. I just want to let it go for the night." That pretty much explains how Micah feels about all he had to do to get in the gang so that he could find out who killed Tina. Micah had to get jumped into the gang and that was a very painful experience. In the song it says " I just want to let it go for the night" , and that explains how Micah feels, because he wants to feel that what he's doing is right for Teddy.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NUVCQXMUVnI
The eighth song in my playlist is " Kinda outta' luck," by Lana del Rey. This song matches the part in the book where Teddy is frustrated by not knowing who Tinas killer is. " Teddy sat at his computer itching with frustration. He had poked into every corner of CLETS he could think to look in, but he still had no idea who Tinas killer was.” The tone of the song fits that part in the book, because the song is very loud and sad and that explains how teddy feels. The song is also very mysterious and almost angry in a way.

A Playlist for Twisted by Aubrey
by Aubrey
The first song in my playlist is “Party in the USA” by Miley Cyrus. This song matches the scene in Twisted when the Miller family goes to the party and thought it was a casual party when it wasn’t. The two fit together because in the beginning of the song the lyrics say “I guess I never got the memo”, which fits with the situation.
The second song in my playlist is “Try Hard” by 5 Seconds of Summer. This song matches the scene in Twisted when Tyler wants his mom to buy him new clothes to make him look “hot”. This song fits with the book because the second verse of the song is about a boy changing who he is for a girl which is what Tyler is trying to do.
The third song in my playlist is “Story of My Life” by One Direction. This song matches the book Twisted because in the song, the first line says, “Written up in these walls are the stories that I can’t explain”, perfectly sums up the scene where Tyler is being accused of doing something he didn’t do.
The fourth song is my playlist is “Blown Away” by Carrie Underwood. The song matches the book Twisted when Tyler smashed his dad’s model train set with a bat. These two fit together because the song is about a tornado damaging a house, and the song and the scene both have damaging involved.
The fifth song in my playlist is “Case Closed” by Little Mix. This song matches the part in Twisted when Tyler is accused and he doesn’t know if he is going to be arrested for what he didn’t do. The two fit together because the chorus in the song matches the thoughts that Tyler has.
The sixth song in my playlist is “Catch My Breath” by Kelly Clarkson. This song sums up the book Twisted because it relates to Tyler’s story and also relates to his mood.
The seventh song in my playlist is “Country Strong” by Gwyneth Paltrow. This song matches the book Twisted because this song relates to Tyler’s confidence. “I might be fragile but there’s something that they can’t crush”. Tyler realizes how strong he is in the end of the book and this song fits perfectly.
The eighth song in my playlist is “Eyes Open” by Taylor Swift. This song matches a part in Twisted when the principle is making sure that Tyler isn’t getting in trouble. The two fit together because the song’s lyrics say “everybody’s waiting for you to break down, everybody’s watching to see the fallout”, which relates with Tyler when his principle is constantly checking on him.

A Playlist for Twisted by Isaac Campos
By Isaac Campos
1. The first song in my playlist is Eye of the tiger by survivor. This song matches the scene in Twisted when Tyler brags about working out and doing push-ups. The two fit together because they both have to do with working out.
2. The second song in my playlist is say what you want to say by Jon Mayer. This song matches the scene in Twisted when Yoda (Tyler’s friend) gets his butt cheeks taped together. The two fit together because Tyler has to help Yoda take the tape off. I believe in Yoda’s mind he is thinking dude you’re already doing this so just say what you want to say!
3. The third song in my playlist is Heart Attack by Trey Songz. This song matches the scene in Twisted when Tyler talks about girls and what they wear and how people lose their concentration in the hallway. The two fit together because the song demonstrates someone having a heart attack over a girl which basically happens when guys hit the walls after looking at girls!
4. The fourth song in my playlist is I want to know what love is by foreigner. This song matches the scene in Twisted when Tyler dreams of Bethany Millbury kissing him. The two fit together because Tyler had a dream about kissing her instead of actually doing it so it sounds like he wants to know what love is.
5. The fifth song in my playlist is not over you by Gavin Degraw. This song matches the scene in twisted when Tyler gets an erection because Bethany Millbury was talking to him. The two fit together because obviously Tyler is not over her and quite frankly doesn’t seem like he’ll ever be.
6. The sixth song in my playlist is lose yourself by Eminem. This song matches the scene in Twisted when Tyler draws graffiti on the school wall. The two fit together because Tyler lost himself and wasn’t thinking when he did that.
7. The seventh song in my playlist in my playlist is I don’t believe a word you say by ben harper. This song matches the scene in Twisted when Tyler gets jumped by the Bethany’s older brother because of pictures that “Tyler took”.
8. The eighth song in my playlist is loser by 3 doors down. This song matches the scene in Twisted when Tyler’s dad calls him a loser. The two fit together because the song means someone putting somebody down and that’s what tiller’s dad does to him.

A Playlist for Hate List by Julia
by Julia
The first song I chose for this playlist is “Ours” by Taylor Swift. This song basically is saying that no matter what people think this love is theirs. This relates to the book because when Valerie and Nick were dating Valerie’s mom didn’t approve of it even though Valerie and Nick were perfectly happy together. In the song “Ours” she says: “Seems like there's always someone who disapproves. They'll judge it like they know about me and you”, I think this explains how her and Nick feel.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kywdZA8fbB4
The next song I thought would work for this playlist is “Pumped up Kicks” by Foster the People. This song works because he says that the people he doesn’t like better watch out since he has a gun. They basically say this in the book because Nick and Valerie didn’t like people so they decided to start a hate list. Later Nick ended up shooting people off of that list. The song says that the “cool” kids had better watch out. Most of the people on Nick and Valerie’s list were the “cool” kids. This song is about a kid who has thoughts killing people which Nick has had thoughts about that before.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T3ldsF65cLM
“Let me be Myself” by 3 Doors Down is the third song I chose for this book. In the Hate List Valerie is being judged for who she is and who she hangs out with. She is judged by the “popular” crowd and these are the people who bully her. They can’t accept that she is who she is so they bully her. This song says, “But tell me please, would you one time just let me be myself? So I can shine with my own light, let me be myself. Would you let me be myself?” This is the chorus of the song and I think it really represents what Valerie is going through.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ktfhWGKPHXE
My forth song I chose for this playlist is called “How to Save a Life” by The Fray. I chose this song because in the chorus it says, “Where did I go wrong, I lost a friend, somewhere along in the bitterness. And I would have stayed up with you all night. Had I known how to save a life”, I thought that Valerie felt this way when she was in the hospital and was fully aware of what had happened with the shooting and Nick. There was regret that she had that maybe if she had paid more attention to the signs he was sending she might have been able to save not only his life but the lives of others too.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DF0zefuJ4Ys
“Innocent” by Taylor Swift is the next song I chose for this playlist. I chose this song because it uses a lot of minor chords which makes it sound sort of sad and in a way, scary. A scene where this song could work in is where Jessica wants to give Valerie a second chance. Jessica really wants to be friends with Valerie and she knows she didn’t have anything to do with the shooting and that she wasn’t guilty. In this song it says “..Who you are is not where you’ve been, your still an innocent...” The song is about second chances.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4jpVY41VX_M
This song, “Cry” by Alexx Calise is another song I chose for the playlist. It is about someone who is basically at the breaking point and, as it says in the song, this person doesn’t want to do anything but cry. There is a point in the book after Valerie realized everything that happened and is going back to school for the first time and to her it seems like her world is crashing down. Her boyfriend was gone, he killed many people and severely injured others and everyone thinks that Valerie was part of the cause. Valerie feels like everyone hates her and she just wants to cry.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DoAcV9rzcFI
The seventh song I chose is “All Too Well” by Taylor Swift. This song is about missing someone and remembering all of the fun times you used to have. Valerie and Nick were really happy. There are times in the book where Valerie is thinking back to her and Nick. She misses how much fun they used to have together. This song says “…I remember it all too well...” and “Cause there we are again when I loved you so…. It was rare I was there I remember it all too well…” This is really how Valerie feels when she misses Nick. She feels like she lost everything when he killed himself.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4gFugRKNrmo
“Forever Love (Digame)” by Anna Nalick is the last song on my playlist for the Hate List. This song is very pretty. It says, “Make me think that maybe heavens where you are. God don’t send to me your angels. I just wanna hear you say again, Forever love” This relates to the book in the end when Valerie still misses Nick but she has gotten over it a little bit. She has moved on with her life even though she still really does miss him. Valerie wishes though that he was still with her and wishes she could see him again.

A Playlist for Legend by Calvin
by Calvin
The First song in my playlist for Legend by Marie Lu is “Nobody Knows the Troubles I’ve Seen” sung by Louis Armstrong. This song fits the first couple pages of the book where Day’s describing the position he’s in. His mother thinks he is dead; he’s a wanted man and he’s hiding in an apartment building across from his house waiting to see if his family has the plague. He has some troubles and his family doesn’t know.
The second song in my playlist is “You’re the Best Around” by Joe Esposito. This song would be playing while June is looking back at how she free climbed 14 stories up a building before the military dragged her off the building with nets.
The third song in my playlist of songs is “Kiss Him goodbye” by Steam. In the story June falls in love with a boy she meets on the street; little did she know this was the ‘criminal’ she had been hunting down. She is forced to say goodbye after she had kissed him early that night. So when she finds out, the song Kiss Him Goodbye starts playing.
The fourth song in my playlist is “There’s Always Something There to Remind” Me by naked eyes. Both Day and June are constantly reminded of each other and can’t seem to forget one another. June Desperately tries to forget about Day because she keeps telling herself that’s hes a criminal and he killed her brother. Eventhough in the book June is trying to forget Day more than Day is trying to forget her, I know this song will still work.
The fifth song in my playlist is “The Grand Illusion” by STYX. In the book June finds out that the Republic is not telling everything to the people. They are keeping many secrets from the people. They think the plague is just a desease sweeping through the Republic, but really the republic is testing their bio-weapons on the people before releaseing these plagues on the colonies. So what they think is the plague is a ‘grand illusion’ created by the Republic.
The sixth song I have chosen for my playlist is “Everything You Know Is Wrong” by Weird Al Yancovic. June finds out that everything she knows about Day is wrong. He didn’t fail his trial, he got a perfect score. He didn’t kill Metias, Thomas did. He didn’t escape from the labor camps, he escaped from the laboratories. There’s no such thing as a labor camp. Everything she knew was wrong.
The seventh song in my playlist is Cantina Band recorded by Meco. This song fits the part in the book where Day and Tess walk into the bar and met Kiada. This song would the perfect the perfect overture for the seen where Day and Kiada were talking to each other.
The Eighth and final song in my playlist is "Who You'd Be Today" by Kenny Chesney. This song reminded me of the sorrow and the grief June felt for Metias after he was killed. In the song it says, "I can see your smile and "I can hear your laugh." This is exactly what June was experiencing.

A Playlist for Blood Wounds by Sophia Bevans
by Sophia Bevans
The first song in my playlist is Iris by the Goo Goo Dolls. This song fits the feeling of the beginning of the book Blood Wounds, where she feels like the outsider in her family, and is secretly suffering but doesn’t want to hurt anyone by showing it. This song is seemingly happy, but has an undertone of sadness. You also find out that she cuts on the beginning of the book, which matches the line of the song that says “you bleed just to know you’re alive”.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=birrtUbd-CY
The second song in my playlist is Numb by Linkin Park. This song talks about not feeling good enough, or meeting up to others expectations, while always having to pretend to be someone you’re not. “I'm tired of being what you want me to be, feeling so faithless, lost under the surface. Don't know what you're expecting of me; put under the pressure of walking in your shoes.” This is how Willa feels about her family, because her stepsisters are seemingly perfect at everything, and can do so much more than her. Jack wants their family to be happy, and her mom wants to please Jack, so Willa has to play along. “And I know I may end up failing too. But I know you were just like me with someone disappointed in you.” These lyrics describe how Willa feels about her mom when she goes back to Pryor and discovers a lot of things about her and her mother’s past.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eBqY3WEjawg
The third song in my playlist is London Bridge by Ed Sheeran ft. Yelawolf. This song fits the part in the end of Blood Wounds when Willa goes to the basement and begins to have suicidal thoughts. She sees the story of the murders from her Dad’s point of view, and understands his feelings. This song fits how she interprets her dad’s feelings. The lyrics in the song “whiskey on my mind, then came the dead, sheriff in the yard, here comes the rest”, “wanted to change but somehow I know I really wont” and “maybe I love blood- I just let it spill” all fit the situation that Willa’s dad was in. The song also talks about the man’s wife leaving him with the baby, which is what happened with Willa’s mom.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Da8rf3pq3-w
The fourth song in my playlist is Runaway by Bon Jovi. This song reminds me of the part in the book Blood Wounds where Willa is going to Pryor after the murders. She isn’t running away from home, but she is in a sense running away from her problems at home to go confront the problems she has with her past. She runs away from her family at home to discover the family she never knew she had. The pre chorus of the song runaway says “No one heard a single word you said. They should have seen it in your eyes what was going around your head”. This makes me think of the way no one in Willa’s family saw what she was going through until it was almost too late.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ySWVxTNUu0c
The fifth song in my playlist is Demons by Imagine Dragons. This song goes with a specific quote on page 155 of Blood Wounds: “I knew about his battles with his demons”. This is a line from Pastor Hendrick’s speech at the funeral. The lyrics from the chorus “Don’t get too close it’s dark inside, it’s where my demons hide” say the same thing as the Pastor had been saying about Dwayne Coffey.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GFQYaoiIFh8
The sixth song in my playlist is On My Own by Three Days Grace. The lyrics from this song “I walk alone; think of home, memories of long ago. No one knows I lost my soul long ago,” makes me think of how Willa was feeling when she was in Pryor, away from home and seeing the horrors of her past. Her life before the murders probably seemed like a long time ago, and the past Willa like another person. “So now I'm standing here alone, I'm learning how to live life on my own. Forget about the past I'll never know; forget about the one I left at home.” These last lyrics of the song also tie into the story, and make me think of when she visited the graves of her family in the cemetery.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ky-iikmoZT0
The seventh song in my playlist is Give Me Love by Ed Sheeran. This song fits the mood and tone of extreme depression in Blood Wounds when Willa holds the blade to her neck, thinking how easy it would be to let her “blood flow away, taking my life along with it”. The bridge of the song where Ed Sheeran is screaming the words ‘Love me! Give me love!’ fits the call for help Willa is feeling when she’s at her breaking point.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QlNQD98lfUY
The final song in my playlist is Life Starts Now by Three Days Grace. This song makes me think of the end of the book Blood Wounds. It is somewhat upbeat, like the ending of the book, and it’s about moving on and starting over, like Willa has to do after her family moves past the tragedy and solves their problems. The lyrics “life starts now; you've done all the things that could kill you somehow” describe Willa’s past and hope for the future. The words “All this pain, take this life and make it yours. All this hate, take your heart and let it love again” also describe the closure of Willa’s past, and her commitment to stop cutting for good.

A Playlist for Boy21 by 516
by 516
A Playlist for Boy 21
The first song in my playlist is “Outsiders” by The Daylights. This song matches the introductory scene in the book Boy 21, by Matthew Quick. It portrays Finley’s cynical thoughts about being the only white player on his varsity basketball team. He explains how people call him “White Rabbit” because in his English class, they had to read a very sad book by John Updike. It was about a long-ago white basketball star named Rabbit that grew up and lived a miserable life. This song is similar because it’s about how the singer hates being different compared to the rest of the world and feeling detached. The song quotes, “Right here, above the street, watching the city span beneath. I couldn’t help but feel like an outsider.”
The next song in my playlist is “Rabbit Run” by Eminem. I chose this song because the setting in the movie, “8 Mile” is very similar to the setting in the book. Finley explains how “Belmont’s too complicated for me to explain in a sentence. “The drugs, violence, racial tension, the Irish mob-…” These are his thoughts when trying to keep Russ in his place because he doesn’t understand how acting extra-terrestrial can be dangerous. The lyrics in the song expresses past frustrations in being stuck in Detroit, having to move into his alcoholic mother’s trailer and all of the drugs, violence and racial tension that is the reality of living in poverty.
The third song in my playlist is “All Star” by Smash Mouth. This matches the scene where Russ outruns, out shoots, out jumps and out dribbles everyone on the court. For the first time, he plays to his full ability instead of masking it, as he usually does. He is later peppered with questions because he explained that his skills were due to extra-terrestrial powers. This scene is simply enthralling and exciting, and the beats of the song are as well. Also, “Hey now you’re an all-star get your game on, go play.” is a great example of what happens during this scene.
The next song in this playlist is “I’m So Tired” by The Beatles. The tone captures how numb, depressed, hollow and blurry the singer feels. After Erin ignores Finley while she’s in the hospital, his world falls apart. He explains how “Life isn’t vivid; time is blurry, distorted, stretched out and balled up.” He ruminates over the fact that his girlfriend hasn’t contacted him, which is the same reason the singer is feeling hopeless.
My fifth song in my playlist is “Across the Universe” by The Beatles. The song is about how the world is confusing, and how bad is mixed with good. Up is down and down is up. The song quotes, “Pools of sorrow, waves of joy are drifting through my open mind.” It matches the scene on page 240 when Finley gets Erin’s letter. This is because the letter contains both good news (new) and bad news (old.) This affects Finley’s ability to make a decision right away whether or not to do what he is asked. The tone of the song also matches his hesitance, because it is apathetic and gradual.
The sixth song on my playlist is “Rumor has it” by Adele. In the book, Finley has been told, by his coach, that Russ is extremely good at basketball, but Finley has yet to see him show off his skills. The coach isn’t exactly hesitant to play up the hype to the fullest and the lyrics of this song express how, before the first practice, the whole team wonders if he has supreme skill or not. Also, this song is upbeat which captures Finley’s adrenaline-filled mood that comes before a practice.
The seventh song in my playlist is “Coming Home” by Skylar Grey. The lyrics express a new beginning. Finley’s pop gives him a ticket to New Hampshire and tells him that it’s “a chance to get out of here and start fresh, free and clear of your family history.” This is perfectly displayed when the song quotes “Let the rain wash away all the pain of yesterday.” He is also metaphorically going home because that’s where his girlfriend Erin was forced to move due to the witness protection program. Also, the tone of the song is tender and slow but empowered.
The last song in my playlist is “21 Guns” by Green Day. This song matches the scene in the book when Finley first goes to the emergency room. This is because he is asked if he is alright, and he responds to this by puking for the third time that night and glancing up at his teammates when he is finished. He doesn’t know how he is. This song conveys exactly this when it quotes, “When you’re at the end of the road, and you’ve lost all sense of control, and your thoughts have taken their toll. Your faith walks on broken glass, you’re in ruins.” The lyrics display defeat, the punk influences in this song make it passionate. At the same time though, the tone sounds a bit melancholic because of the repetitive melodic phrasing.

A Playlist for Blood Wounds by Abby
by Abby
The first song of my eight song playlist is ‘White Liar’ by Miranda Lambert. This song captures the tone of many scenarios in my novel; one in particular however is the luminary phone call Willah embraces with Faye, a family friend. Willah soon finds out during this short phone conversation that her blood father had remarried and had a separate family. Although divorced from Willah’s mother legally and separated by many states, this came as a surprise because even though her mother had never conveyed her former husband had a separate family, but she had not attempted to convey that information to Willah at any time either. Miranda expresses her discouragement with white liars in her new country aged song. The mood is a frustration for the lack of knowledge but also the faint disregard on whether you really needed or wanted to know that information.
‘White Liar’ by Miranda Lambert
The second song is also a modern country song with a different mood and tone however. This song is performed by Dierks Bentley with a title of ‘I Hold On.’ In the song, Dierks goes through a couple scenarios when or where he holds on to specific feelings and objects that have a certain attachment to him. We see this in Blood Wounds often, especially when Willah explains her attachment to her father who was now known as a serial killer across the nation and that she hadn’t even spoken to in nearly a decade. In both the song and this situation, there is the realization and acceptance of each scenario’s feelings. We could also symbolize Dierks longing for his father that used to ride around with him in his truck, to Willah’s few pleasant memories of her toddler years with her blood father.
‘I Hold On’ by Dierks Benteley
Thirdly I chose ‘What Now’ by Rihanna. This represents and accurately portrays when Willah is in the hotel room, waiting to see if the dead body that was identified to be her fathers on the scene of the crime, was really who the authorities assumed it to be. While waiting, Willah begins to ponder all the possibilities of scenarios that could occur once she returned to her school after her life had become so called “normal” again. Willah is discouraged and feels hopeless. Rihanna also expresses the same emotional state when she repetitively asks “what now?” in discouragement of the heartbreak and chaos in her life within the recent spell of time. Both scenarios are in a depressed, longing tone.
‘What Now’ by Rihanna
Fourthly, I chose ‘Hold On, We’re Going Home’ by Drake (Feat. Majid Jordan) because Drake relating to some of Willah’s feelings and emotions within the song. Even though Drake is expressing feelings for a female to his liking, the mood of the song and Willah’s scenario are similar in a way that it’s almost a bitter-sweet homecoming once Willah’s life goes back to her so called ‘normal.’ Willah doesn’t exactly know how her life will return to ‘normal’ and Drake explains in his lyrics that he’s willing to take a chance with love once again, just like Willah will be taking chances going back to school and facing everyday life again.
‘Hold On, We Are Going Home’ by Drake (Feat. Majid Jordan)
The fifth song was ‘Unconditionally’ by Katy Perry because of the tone and mood relating to Willah’s step father’s relationship with Willah. Willah’s step father, Jack, although never officially adopting Willah, shows her the same love and compassion that we would see with a father to his biological, full blood daughters. Jack however gives all his daughters, biological or not, the same level of caring compassion. The mood in Katy Perry’s song explains unconditional love and what that looks like. The mood in the song is essentially a gay representation of an everlasting, loving relationship. Katy’s loving relationship is just like Jack’s with his daughters; just like every father’s should be.
‘Unconditionally’ by Katy Perry
The sixth song on my playlist is ‘Turning Tables’ by Adele because of Adele’s distinct tone in the song. In the song we see a rejection for feelings and actions that Adele has once made and refuses to ever make again. Willah however feels, towards the end of the novel, that cutting herself to reduce stress is a mistake that she’s made before and that won’t make it again. She acknowledged this to her family, who willingly agreed to help her with this brutal issue. The lyrics may not match up in this particular situation, but the tones of regret and change are blatantly obvious in both the song and novel.
‘Turning Tables’ by Adele
The seventh song in my play list relates to a very specific scene in my book, and that song is ‘Drunk Last Night’ by Eli Young Band. When Willah is nearing the end of her stay in Pryor, Faye the woman at which Willah was staying with, decided that the funeral and trauma had been too much and that it was time to get a little tipsy. Faye of course warned Willah, and eventually marked her words by actions. In the song above, The Eli Young Band repetitively identifies the drunkenness of the character the song was created after. This song directly correlates to the specific scene and mood when Faye gets drunk in the book.
‘Drunk Last Night’ by Eli Young Band
The eighth and final song on my play list is performed by Philip Philips with the title of ‘Home.’ The song features Philip coming out and saying that he will help whoever is having troubles, through this difficult time he or she is experiencing. Just like Willah had Faye, her mother’s friend from Pryor, to be there for her in more ways than one. Each is an expression of compassion and caring for someone who is going through a rough time. A real friend most would argue.

A Playlist for Boy21 by Claire
by Claire
The book Boy21 is about Finley's struggles is his Senior year of high school. Many past events cause new problems, and new faces cause even bigger problems. Finley's problems are very relatable, in the way that he is very human and he shares his emotions freely in this book. The events make you think about scenarios that may have happened to you or someone you know about. Many songs are similar to the things happening in the book, but these are the ones that spoke to me
The first song for an event in the book Boy21 by Matthew Quick is “The Way” by Ariana Grande. The song describes how she needs a certain someone in her life in order for it to be complete. This compares to how Erin has to have Finley in her life, especially when she wants to stay with him during basketball season, even though they had the agreement to break up for the season. The lyrics “You give me that kind of something, want it all the time, need it every day,” describes how she is basically addicted to him, and “Never get enough, I can’t stay away,” also proves this and adds to the dimension that perhaps the boy is unwilling, as is Finley.
The second song to describe a point in the book is “I’ll Show You” by Ailee. This Korean Pop song is about how a girl changes herself to prove someone wrong. Even though when Russ challenges Finley is about showing someone up, the point of the song is the same as the plot; to prove someone wrong and make them loath you. It’s a reach, but the song came off to me as a perfect match. They both talk about trying to be the best them, or at least better than you, and the song captures this part of the book.
The next song for the playlist is “Why Do You Let Me Stay Here?” by She & Him is about why someone has abandoned you, even though you trust them. This is how Finley feels when Coach has left it to him alone to help Russ. The lyrics describe leaving the girl on the shelf, and her being okay with it, because she trusts the boy. She wants to know and progressively gets upsets how he leaves her out, even though he claims to love her. This song’s progressive tone over the time tells how Finley gets confused later on.
“What Hurts the Most” by Rascal Flatts tells of how you love someone, but can’t see them for a long while. This person finds out that their lover is hurt, even though they haven’t seen them for a while. This is about how Russ hasn’t seen his parents since they were murdered, but still loves them and looks up to them. He is waiting for their final coming and is denial of them being gone. He didn’t have a final goodbye and this is what “What hurts the most was being so close, and having' so much to say,” really gets to me in this song and how it relates to the book. He wants to be able to be with them, just one more times and is depressed because of this.
The fifth scene in the book is when Finley finds out that his girlfriend’s been put in the hospital. He is so mad about why and the circumstances she is hurt and is reviewing how much he misses her since he can’t see her. The song “It’s All Coming Back to Me Now” by Celine Dion is about missing her loved one to an accident and reminiscing about them and how they felt about them. She goes through phases of lovesickness and so does Finley, even though they are more frequent.
“Bullet with Butterfly Wings” is a song about feeling trapped and wanting to get out of the boundaries. He wants to be independent and not compared to other people that do what he does, because he is a different person. During the basketball game Russ shows off his skills and Finley is embarrassed of how he isn’t as great as Russ and feels like people think of him poorly now. He’s nervous and wants to just do what he wants to do. “Despite all my rage, I am still just a rat in a cage” explains the trapped and excluded feelings that Finley feels, as well as the writer from Smashing Pumpkins.
“Lovefool” by The Cardigans is about a girl who is madly in love with someone who refuses to be with her. This is like how Erin wants to be with Finley even though she knows she can’t be. The situation prevents them from being together and she wants to still be with him. It’s a Romeo and Juliet story, but in this book, it is as if Romeo is already dead. The lyrics “Love me, love me. Just say that you love me” tell us that the boy doesn’t want to be with her, and that is how Erin’s situation is.
The song “Push it to the Limit” is a very up beat song about doing a sport and the adrenaline rush that you feel during the exercise. Since the book is about basketball players, this song is a very good representation about how intense a game can be if you enjoy it. Corbin Bleu sang this song for a Disney Chanel movie about boxing and multiple other sports, and I think this shows how competitive while playing basketball. This supports how Finley feels when he plays basketball and never wants to stop, because he just loves it so much.
These songs represents these points in the book thoroughly and present the want to be more in-depth and understand the interworking of each character's thoughts and tells of how each person interprets what they are reading. Overall, this assignment has helped me understand that there is more to what you are reading then just words and events.

A playlist for Boy21 by Collin H.
by Collin H.
The first song in my playlist is “Don’t Stop Believin’” by Journey. This song fits the part where Finley finally gets a note from Erin after she has been gone for 6 months. This letter gives Finley new hope and shows him that not all is lost.
The second song in my playlist is the “300 violin Orchestra” by Jorge Quintero. This is basically a good pump-up song to listen to before a game and I think it describes how Finley is feeling in his first basketball game of the season. H feels that he has been waiting for basketball season far too long and is ready to get started. He describes his first game like it was as if day dreaming, everything went right.
The third song in my playlist is “Rumor Has It” by ADELE. Finley has been told by his coach that Boy21 is extremely good at basketball, but is yet to see Boy21 show his skills. He wonders if the idea of Boy21 having supreme basketball skill is either stretched or just has not yet been shown.
The fourth song in my playlist is “Moonlight Sonata” by Beethoven. Finley is quiet, he often prefers to sit in silence rather than engage in conversation. This song fits because it is slow and without lyrics. Also, in one section of the book Boy21 takes Finley to a place designed for stargazing, which fits the title.
The fifth song in my playlist is “Use Somebody” by Kings of Leon. It describes when Erin is in the hospital and asks Finley if they can get back together. The song fits this part because Erinbasically could “use somebody.” She’s going through a bad time and wants extra support from Finley.
The sixth song in my playlist is “Basketball” by Bow Wow. It mostly describes when Finley is explaining his and Erin’s daily basketball workout. They practice a lot. All off season they do constant basketball drills along with weights and running. They try to do what it’ll take to have the best basketball season possible.
The seventh song in my playlist is “Mad World” by Michael Andrews and Gary Jules. The essence of this song is that it’s sad, and that theme very much describes when Finley is telling the story of how is mother died and how his grandfather lost his legs. Finley likes to pretend that playing basketball in his backyard is his earliest memory. The reason being is that he started to play basketball after his mother was killed, so it lets him keep his mind off of the tragedy.
The eighth song in my playlist is “Cinema” by Benny Benassi. This song quite well describes how Finley is feeling on the very first page while him and Erin are eating dinner with his dad and grandpa. Rather than eating, Finley decides to spend most his time checking Erin out.

Playlist for Hate List by Kailin Kantola
by Kailin Kantola
The first song in my playlist is “How to Save a Life” by The Fray. It fit the part in the book Hate List by Jennifer Brown, when the police officer is going over her and Nicks emails. They talked about death and killing a lot in their emails. Valerie didn’t realize when Nick talked about death and killing so much, he actually meant it. She was always kidding about it but she couldn’t see that he actually had feelings behind everything they talked about. If she had known he was serious about wanted to kill all those people and himself, she loved him enough to get him help. If she would have known, she could have saved many lives.
My second song in the playlist is “If Anyone Cared” by Nickelback. This song was mentioned at the beginning of the book. The author, Jennifer Brown, said that that song inspired her to write this book. She listened to it all the time in the process of writing the book. It reminded me of the part of the book before Nick died when they would lie down in the grass and watch the sky. Then the song lyrics say “Amen I, I’m alive.” Valerie says that when she is in the hospital.
The next song is the song “Love Story” by Taylor Swift. It relates to the part of the book when Nick and Valerie are actually happy together. Valerie tells us about when she first went to Nick’s house. She says he loved Shakespeare and he read all of his plays. When they hung out he would read her Shakespeare and tell her about it. When they started dating, they called each other Romeo and Juliet. In the song, she refers to Romeo and Juliet so that it why I picked this song. Plus it was a time in the book when Valerie was happy being with Nick.
My next song is “Photograph” by Nickelback. The song talks about when looking at a photograph, how it brings back memories and the fun times. It is alike to the part in the book when Valerie is cleaning her room many months after getting out of the crazy unit at the hospital. Valerie just sat around for many months and never even put thought into cleaning. When she finally did, she found an old photograph of her and Nick at the lake they hung out at a lot. She laughed and reminisced on the times her and Nick were happy together.
Next, is the song is “Exit Wounds” by The Script. When Nick began shooting in the commons, Valerie explained the feeling as numb. She felt dizzy, couldn’t see right, she couldn’t hear what he was saying to her and was in so much shock that her boyfriend would do something like that. The exact words in the song say, “My hands are cold, my body's numb. I'm still in shock, what have you done? My head is pounding, my visions blurred your mouth is moving, I don't hear a word.” I thought it was scary that it matched so perfect. It was kind of scary. As if this song was made for this book. Also when she got shot in the leg it was an exit wound.
The sixth song is “Here Without You” by 3 Doors Down. I picked this song because right after she wakes up in the hospital after the shooting, life without Nick is becoming a reality. She is very upset that he died. The thing that makes her the saddest is that the only things people remembered about Nick was the bad things. They didn’t remember the nice things nick had done and they didn’t realize that he and his family are victims too. The song talks about being here without you, and thinking about you all the time, which Val does.
The next song is “Broken” by Life House. I chose this song because when she was in the “Crazy” unit in the hospital, she talked about feeling broken. All she did was stare at the walls and watch the television occasionally. Everyone in her family basically disowned her because she was sure no one wanted a “mentally unstable” child. Her mom, nor dad, nor brother ever came to visit her. She said she was broken.
My last song is “Already Gone” by Kelly Clarkson. The song really connects with the story when Valerie visits Nick’s grave to leave everything there. The sadness, the depression, and the lonely nights, she leaves them at his grave. She decides to move on from her past and let everything go. At his grave she chooses to let him go out of her life. She held onto him for so long and it was only dragging her down. Valerie is moving on in her life.

A Playlist for Goal by Alyssa Orozco
by Alyssa Orozco
The first song in my playlist is “Rough Water” by Travie McCoy. This song matches the scene in Goal by Robert Rigby when he is working with his father and is lying by the pool enjoying the sun. These two fit together because they are both talking about water and pools. The tone in this scene was relaxed because he is just enjoying the heat on his hot body in California.
The second song in my playlist is “Battle Scars” by Lupe Fiasco. This song matches the scene where he is arguing with his father when he stole his money out of his shoe to buy a truck. These two fit together because they are both talking about how they’re both hurt. Santiago’s dads tone is such a brutal behavior because he is constantly making all his dreams be crushed.
The third song in my playlist is “I’m Raw” by fabulous. This song matches the scene where he has just begun tryouts and he is getting laid out by another guy on the opposite team as him during tryouts. The tone of this scene was a feeling of disappointment because he knew he can do better than what he is.
The fourth song in my playlists is “Tipsy” by Mike Stud. This song matches the scene where he is at the club with his roommate and their having a good time getting to know each other. The fifth song in my playlist is “Wave your flag” by Knaan. This song matches the scene where he is going to play his last game with his team. These two fit together because it’s a song that pumps you up for some soccer. The tone in this scene was anxious because Santiago wants to impress the coaches that he’s good enough to be where he is today.
The sixth song in my playlist is “I made it” by Kevin Rudolf. The song matches the scene where he is finally in England. These two fit together because he made it their safely. The tone in this scene was thankful because without his grandmother he wouldn’t be in the spot he is today.
The seventh song in my playlist is “Chum” by Earl Sweatshirt. The song matches the scene where his father dies because of a heart attack. These two fit together because in the song it explains how they lost their father. The tone in this scene was devastating because his father died in front of his younger brother.

A Playlist for the book One Shot Away by Elin
by Elin
The first song in my playlist is called “food” by The Turtles. This song matches the scene in One Shot away when Diggy grabs a handful of fat around his navel because his been eating Taco Bell and other fattening foods. Both the song and the scene in the book fit together because they both mention food and getting fat. This is bad for Diggy because instead of gaining some weight he should be working out and eating healthy because now he will have to do something he won’t want to do starve himself. The tone in the song is mellow and it matches the scene because its food and when you’re eating food you’re calm and mellow.
The second song in my playlist is “Give me another chance” by Big Star this song matches the scene in the book when Coach Greco finds out Diggy’s weight. The two fit together because in the scene Coach Greco finds out Diggy’s weight and his disappointed in him because he is supposed to weigh 152 but he actually weighs 170, which is actually really bad because now he has to starve himself to get back to 152. Trevor could take over the weight class if he finds out what Diggy’s weight is actually. Coach Greco gives Diggy another chance to get his weight back to 152. The tone for this is hopeful because the Coach knows that Diggy get back to his weight.
The third song in my playlist is “Anything can happen” by Ellie Goulding. This song matches the scene in the book when Diggy and Trevor were scrimmaging and Trevor all of sudden hurts Diggy, Diggy cuts his lips; he bleeds all over the mats and Diggy needs stitches this was really unexpected and Diggy is now really fierce with Trevor. The two fit together because the person singing the lyrics sounded mad, also the type of language she was using in in the song and Diggy feels the same way for what Trevor did to him making him get stitches in his lip and Diggy is also mad because he has to wait a couple of days to start practicing again. That’s why I choose this song to match the scene in the book. The tone for this scene is fierce because Diggy won’t be able to practice for a couple of days and he is committed to wrestling and he hates that he has to miss practices and also because he had to get stiches on his lips.
The forth song in my playlist is “Gimme Shelter” by Rolling Stones. This song matches the scene in the book when Coach Greco tells the guys that they shouldn’t give up when they were in practice because all the guys sounded tired so he told them that to encourage them. He also stated that they shouldn’t give up because they are One Shot Away from achieving their dreams. The song and the scene in the book both go together well because in the song it mentions the person one shot away from meeting his dream and that is also very similar to the wrestlers they have one dream and their only one shot away from making it.The tone for this scene is joyful because they know they can make it.
The fifth song in my playlist is “What makes you beautiful” by One Direction. This song matches the scene when Diggy goes on a date with Jane the other guys on the wrestling team think she’s ugly because of her birthmark that is all over her face. But Diggy thinks she’s beautiful, that’s why they’re on a date. The two fit together because in the song it mentions how the girl doesn’t think she’s beautiful and the guy thinks she is and it is the same thing with Diggy and Jane, no one else thinks she is beautiful except for Diggy. Jane told Diggy that she knew that her birthmark is ugly but she didn’t have a choice if she wanted it or not. That’s why the song and the book both fit because they both mention some of the same things. The tone is delighted for this scene because she knows that someone likes her it makes her feel loved.
The sixth song in my playlist is “we are the champions” by Queen. The song matches the whole entire book. The song and the book are a good fit because the wrestlers dream is to become champions; that was their goals. The tone that most describes the song is victorious because the guys want and be champions.
The seventh song in my playlist is “I won’t give up” by Jason Mraz. This song matches the scene when they are at their meet, they are wrestling and they know that they shouldn’t give up so they can reach their goals on being champions. They know that they should be striving for the best. A tone that matches this scene is determination because they know that they can win. They just have to try and do their best.
The last song on my playlist is “Stronger than ever” by Christina Aguilera. The song matches the scene when Diggy and Trevor and all the guys go out to eat for Jimmy’s birthday dinner. And Jane kisses Diggy right in front of everyone unexpectedly no one knew they were hooking up. She got mad because he hadn’t told anyone about them. The song and the scene both fit together because Jane is trying to keep her cool and stay calm and not burst and get mad she’s staying strong. The tone for this scene is heartbroken because Jane didn’t want Diggy to keep this a secret from the team but Diggy was embarrassed to tell them because he knew that they would make fun of him. They thought she was ugly because of her birthmark.
