A Playlist for The Forest of Hands and Teeth by Maggie E.

 by Maggie E.

The first song in my playlist is “Rolling Girl” by Hatsune Miku. This song matches the scene in The Forest of Hand and Teeth when Mary’s mother dies, and her brother, Jed, rejects her coming back to live with him and his wife in the house Mary and Jed were raised in. The two fit together because the scene and the song both have the tone of sadness stemming from a certain girl.

The second song on my playlist is “Kurai Mori no SAAKASU” (“Dark Woods Circus”) by Hatsune Miku (along with other Vocaloids). The scene(s) that this song matches/are the scene(s) in-which the group (consisting of Mary, Trevor, Cass, Harry, Jed, Beth, Jacob, and Argos) are wandering the forest. The two fit together because the scene(s) are dark and dreary, just like the song is.

The third song in my playlist is the song “Mad World” by Gary Jules. This song matches the scene in-which Cass was having a moment of insanity when the group stumbled upon a dead-end when wandering in the forest. The two fit together because the scene’s tone is “insanity” and the song is basically about insanity.

The fourth song in my playlist is “Time of Dying” by Three Days Grace. This song matches the scene in-which Travis is about ready to die and return after being bitten by an Unconsecrated and Mary is spending her last moments with him. The two fit together because the song matches the mood and tone of the scene.

The fifth song in my playlist is “All the Things she Said” by T.a.T.u. This song matches the scene in-which Mary realizes that Trevor won’t be doing as he has promised and (basically saying) marry her before Trevor’s brother, Harry, does. The two fit together because they both have the tone of despair that stems from relationship issues.

The sixth song in my playlist is the song “My Immortal” by Evanescence. This song matches the scene in-which Mary’s mother is/does die and return after being bitten by an Unconsecrated. The two fit together because the scene contains sadness due to death, as the song does.

The seventh song in my playlist is “Magnet” by Hatsune Miku and Megurine Luka. This song matches the scene(s) in-which Mary and Trevor have their “romantic moments”. These two fit together because they both have the tone of romance and passion.

The eighth song in my playlist is the song “Be Calm” by Fun. This song matches any scenes in-which people, mostly Trevor, Harry, or Jed, comfort Mary at her times of distress. These two fit together because the scenes end up calming Mary down and the song is about calming oneself down.
